Essendon's Ben Hobbs is out of contract at season's end and whilst no deal has been put on the table by Essendon, he is keen to stay.

Hobbs is yet to play at AFL level this year after suffering a calf strain in the pre-season but has been impressive at VFL level so far.

Hobbs' manager, Marty Pask, told afl.com.au's Gettable that he and the Bombers have begun discussions surrounding his client's future at Tullamarine.

"We're talking at the moment which is pleasing," Pask said.

"We're going to go down that path now of trying to work out how it looks. There's a preparedness from both parties to have him continue at Essendon, which is perfectly clear and on the table. It's just a question of how it all looks and how we get a deal done.

Whilst it has been reported that rival clubs are potentially interested in the former No.13 pick, Pask has said Hobbs wants to stay put at Essendon.

"He's keen to stay, 100 per cent," he said.

"You've got a player that's drafted with a first-round pick and he's in Victoria.

"Something drastic would need to go wrong and there has certainly been nothing but good things at the moment for him there."

Hobbs managed to play 17 games in his debut season last year, his best game being against Hawthorn in Round 8 where he managed 19 disposals, seven marks and a goal.
