Carlton midfielder Dale Thomas has been the subject of much speculation so far this season, regarding his future at the Blues.

Thomas is in the final year of his deal, although a trigger in his contract, believed to be at 16 games, will allow the 29-year-old an extra season.

Daisy's form so far this season's hasn't exactly warranted the added year, and the former Magpie was dropped for Carlton's trip to Port Adelaide last weekend, and also failed to earn himself a recall for their round six clash with Sydney.

It's been speculated that Carlton are monitoring Thomas' games played so the clause in his contract isn't triggered, although coach Brendon Bolton has already quashed that rumour, saying he will be selected when his form merits it.

Blues assistant coach John Barker echoed Bolton's comments, and said while the club would love him in the side playing strong football, he needs to get his body right and regain some form.

"Daisy, from our point of view, we're keen (for him) to get some real form up and play some good footy because there's no doubt that the speculation and the constant talk about it (his contract and form) is affecting his psyche," he told 3AW.

"We feel like he's been playing reasonable footy but a little bit patchy.

"He got himself a little bit sore so we thought the best thing to do was to give him a week off and let him rest.

"We're keen for him to play some good footy, get going from a confidence point of view and come back in and have some impact because his experience in the type of experience you need in games like last Friday (night)."
