Gold Coast coach Damien Hardwick will back his defensive troops to negate the damaging key forwards pair Jesse Hogan and Aaron Cadman after the duo tore apart the Lions in Round 14.

Hogan and Cadman combined for 11 goals last Saturday, scoring two-thirds of the Giants' goals for the match in a momentum-boosting win for GWS, who remain on the edge of falling outside the eight with an 8-6 record.

The Giants also welcome back dangerous forwards Toby Greene and Jake Stringer to the line-up this week, placing an enormous challenge on paper for the Gold Coast Suns' defence.

Hardwick has faith in his backline, though, stating the battle will be challenging on both ends.

"Cadman and Hogan just tore the game apart (against Brisbane). If they get that sort of supply and that sort of space, they're going to challenge most," Hardwick said.

"We've got to deny that space and make sure it's a little bit more challenging when they do move the ball that they're doing it under a little bit more pressure than they had last week... Hopefully, one of the things that we do quite well is bring pressure and heat, so hopefully they have a bit more dirty ball and not the clean looks they had last week.

"They've got some outstanding players down there, and there's a reason they've been one of the better sides in the competition for the past five or six years, but we've got an outstanding back six. One of the best back six, sevens in the competition.

"We've got Collo (Sam Collins) down there, Wil Powell is an outstanding player, Bodhi Uwland, Rioli, Noble. Joel Jeffreys jumps through the roof, and then we've got Mac Andrew as well.

"So whilst we're gonna be challenged by their forwards, I think our backs are firmly capable of actually negating those guys and getting some rebound going the other way, so it's going to be a huge challenge for both but we're really pleased with our boys and prepared to back them in."

Hardwick has reason to believe, too, as the Suns have conceded the second-least amount of points per game this season, only behind the ladder-leading Magpies.

The clash, coined as the Expansion Cup, takes place on Sunday at ENGIE Stadium.
