Carlton midfielder Sam Walsh will miss his side's must-win Round 23 clash with Collingwood.

Walsh has been managing with his training loads ahead of the weekend, with the Rising Star winner battling back soreness.

As first revealed by The Age's Peter Ryan, the young Blues star required further assessment ahead of Sunday's matchup and was subsequently pulled out of Carlton's 22-man side to face Collingwood.

Michael Voss has called on Lochie O'Brien among his emergencies, Jack Newnes named as the medical sub.

Fello emergency George Hewett has been sidelined since Round 18 with a back issue and was listed in Voss' 26-man squad potentially underdone in his recovery given his listed return date is set for another 1-2 weeks.

Voss is already rolling the dice on defender-midfielder hybrid Zac Williams for this weekend, with the former Giant having not played since Round 9 with a calf issue.

Williams was one of two inclusions for the Blues for Round 23, with midfielder Adam Cerra also returning from injury.
