After being one of six players axed by the Sydney Swans, defender Lachie Rankin has found a new club for next season.

A versatile prospect, selected in the 2021 National AFL Draft, Rankin was delisted by the club, having not played a single AFL game. He will now join Port Melbourne Borough for the 2024 season.

His axing coincided with the departures of former teammates Ryan Clarke,ย Will Gould,ย Hugo Hall-Kahan,ย Cameron Owen, and Marc Sheather.

Despite failing to register a game, the medium defender showed promise in the junior ranks for Vic Metro's Under-16s and Under-19s as well as at the VFL level - averaging 14 disposals a game in 20 matches.

"Silky running defender Lachie Rankin is the latest addition to the Borough, committing to the club for season 2024 after two seasons in the AFL System with the Sydney Swans," a statement from the club's social media page read.

"Playing 20 games at VFL level in 2023, Rankin averaged 19 disposals a game at close to 80% efficiency, his run & carry and skills, particularly by foot are a key strength, which will be an asset for the Borough.

"We welcome Lachie to the club."
