Former Port Adelaide star Kane Cornes has declared Alex Jesaulenko's iconic mark as "overrated" and "not in the top 50" best grabs of all time.

The Carlton legend's specky from the 1970 Grand Final is considered AFL folklore, but Cornes doesn't rate it.

The Power games record holder said the timing of the mark and the famous commentary line from Mike Williamson of "Jesaulenko! You beauty" has elevated its status.

Cornes said that Brendan Goddard's mark in the 2010 Grand Final was better and that Collingwood defender Jeremy Howe can repeat Jesaulenko's feat anytime he wants.

“(Jesaulenko’s) is an overrated mark,” Cornes said on the Sunday Footy Show.

“Goddard’s mark in the Grand Final is better than Jeusalenko’s mark in a Grand Final. It’s an okay mark. It’s a solid mark, but Jeremy Howe does it every week.”

The rest of the panel were vocal in their disagreement of Cornes' assessment with former Richmond star Nathan Brown saying "You don't have to say things for the sake of it".

Cornes then doubled down on social media later that night, tweeting: “Brilliant commentary of a solid mark but it wouldn’t make the top 50 best marks taken."

Jesaulenko himself has talked down the mark over the years.

“The images make it look classical, like it was taken from the marking manual,” he has said.

“It was against Collingwood, a Grand Final, the biggest crowd ever, Graeme’s a six-foot-four ruckman, I guess there’s a mystique in standing on top of him with your arms outstretched.”
