Karl Amon's future has been the subject of much speculation over the first half of the season, with the Power wingman set to become a free agent at season's end.

The 26-year-old has been linked to several Victorian clubs, such as Hawthorn, Carlton and St Kilda, the latter of which is the club his mother, Katrina Amon, works at as an Indigenous Development Manager.

Amon has been at Port since 2015 and has played 116 games for the club, earning an All Australian nomination for a career-best season in 2021.

Despite Amon having established himself as a valuable part of the Power lineup, former Blue and Crow Bryce Gibbs spoke on Sportsday SA, revealing that he was tipping the wingman to leave Alberton.

“I don’t think he’ll be at Port Adelaide next year,” Gibbs told Sportsday SA.

“He hasn’t signed a contract up to this point and we’re getting to Round 16 now, if he was keen to stay that deal would have been done by now.

“He’s holding out to the end of the year to see where he could end up and I think he won’t be playing at Port Adelaide next year.”

Gibbs' comments come after Port’s GM of Football Chris Davies revealed that Amon recommitting to the club was becoming "less likely" as the season progresses.

“I think the longer it goes on with all of these guys, probably the less likely they are to sign,” he said on SEN SA Breakfast.

“But having said that, Karl is clearly invested in the 2022 season and where we end up. It’s a player’s right nowadays to explore free agency.

“The club has done a good thing by Karl over time, but equally he has been a really good servant for us.

“I’m sure that as the season goes on, it’ll get some media more commentary. I’d like to think that both Karl and the club are going to be mature enough to be able to work through that on a week by week basis again.

“But the longer it goes on, the less likely it is.”
