GWS youngster Jye Caldwell has requested a trade back to Victoria.

According to multiple reports, the midfielder has nominated Essendon as his preferred destination.

Fox Sports' Tom Morris reports that the Bombers have offered a five-year deal, while the Saints tabled a four-year contract.

The Giants confirmed that the 20-year old will seek a move back to his home state.

“Jye has informed us that he would like to return home to Victoria,” Giants GM of Football Jason McCartney told the club website.

“We had tabled a very competitive offer for a second-year player but we’ll now work to facilitate a trade that will provide a strong result for our football club.”

Caldwell has played nine AFL games since getting picked up by GWS with Pick 11 in the 2018 AFL Draft.

The onballer is out-of-contract but will need to be acquired via trade from the Bombers.

It marks the fifth Giant to walk out on the club this off-season, joining Jeremy Cameron, Zac Williams, Aidan Corr and Jackson Hately.

The AFL trade period runs from November 4-12.
