A moment to forget from an outing to forget has cost a Giants' flanker $5000.
Reigning E.J. Whitten Medallist Lachie Ash has been handed the hefty fine for misconduct, following an ugly incident with umpire Jordyn Pearson on Sunday.
Ash turned a very likely goal into a certain one after remonstrating with umpire Pearson after a holding the ball call went against him. His aggressive pointing in Pearson's face resulted in a shot from inside the goal square.
The incident has furthered soured a shock loss for the Giants, who, once again, lost to a team below them, despite a season equally characterised by strong victories over contenders. The Giants now "boast" the unwanted record of fewest days between a win over the ladder leaders, and loss to the lowest ranked side.
The Bombers' victory, too, has been marred, after a suspension was handed to veteran Kyle Langford. The 29-year-old was given a one-match ban for rough conduct against Giant Stephen Coniglio in the fourth quarter of the contest.
If the club accept his ban, or a potential Tribunal hearing is unsuccessful, Langford will miss his side's meeting with red-hot rivals Hawthorn on Saturday.
Elsewhere, Richmond's Sam Cumming and Western Bulldog Joel Freijah were cited for careless contact with an umpire. Cumming can accept a fine of $1875 with an early plea, for a second offence of this nature, while Freijah can accept a $1000 fine with an early plea, for his first offence.
Sun Leo Lombard was cited for rough conduct against Western Bulldog Lachlan McNeil, and can accept a $2000 fine with an early plea.
Bomber Archie Roberts was fined $1000 with an early plea for an off the ball incident with Clayton Oliver, rounding out the charges from Sunday's slate.
