Nicky Winmar's statue that sits outside of Optus Stadium has been ordered to be removed after the former St Kilda footballer was found guilty of assaulting a woman by a Victorian court.
The statue was in honour of Winmar's (an Indigenous man) stance against racism when he celebrated a goal by pointing to his skin in a game against Collingwood in 1993. It was erected in 2019.
On Friday, Winmar was found guilty of assaulting a woman in northern Victoria in 2025.
Western Australian premier Roger Cook ordered the removal of the statue after the guilty verdict was handed down.
"Violence against women is never acceptable, and it is important we send a strong message to the community," Cook said.
"Following Nicky Winmar's conviction, I'm of the firm view that it is no longer appropriate for that statue to be displayed.
"VenuesWest has been directed to remove the statue."

VenuesWest also released a statement on the matter.
"As per the premier's direction and in conjunction with the AFL, VenuesWest can confirm that arrangements are now being made for removal."
After pleading not guilty to the charges, the 60-year-old was convicted of three counts of unlawful assault and common law assault.
Winmar will return to court in August for a pre-sentence hearing.
