They say sport and politics should never mix...but that's exactly what comedian Danny McGinlay has done in his weekly banners.

Back for another week, McGinlay has poked fun at an international sporting event coming to the Sunshine State in the coming years, using it as a platform to go bang on about how Hawthorn will hope Friday night plays out.

There was an air of confidence emanating from both banners ahead of a top-four shaping Friday night clash between Brisbane and Hawthorn.

After losing to Carlton last week, the Lions need to win to stay in the top four and make their route to a premiership three-peat most straightforward, which McGinlay has run with.

He's also drawn on both clubs' proud history and suggested another chapter could be unfolding as the Lions are peaking - save for last weekend's hiccup - at the right time of the year.

Brisbane Lions

Just think, this time next year
When our two teams meet
We'll be able to tease you
About only having one three-peat!

Hawthorn Hawks

We are the stronger team
By any way you judge it
Tonight will be a bigger blowout
Than your Olympics budget
