The AFL have made a series of sweeping changes to COVID-19 regulations after Conor McKenna's positive test on Saturday.

For full group sessions, contact training is now banned for the next four weeks. Tackling is still allowed in small groups of up to nine players.

Clubs can still train with their full group once a week but can only work on no-contact skills, ball movement and tactic drills.

Further, players and approved club staff cannot visit other houses, or have visitors in their house, from 48 hours prior to their weekly pre-match coronavirus test.

Clubs learnt of the new restrictions on Monday afternoon.

AFL players must still complete two COVID-19 tests every week - one at least 24 hours before their full-group training session and then one at least 24 hours before a game.

On Sunday, AFL general counsel Andrew Dillon said the Bombers must still play against Carlton this Saturday, even if the small group of defenders McKenna training with are forced into quarantine.
