The Gold Coast Suns have reportedly made their interest in Crows tall Elliott Himmelberg known, with the Queensland club targeting the unrestricted free agent this off-season.

Himmelberg fell out of contract at the end of Adelaide's 2024 campaign, with no extension being offered by the club.

The unsigned Crow is yet to find a home for 2025, and the Suns are showing an interest in his services, with 9 News' Tom Morris reporting a deal between the two parties now looks "highly likely".

His intention to explore elsewhere was declared at the end of the 2023 season last October, having requested to join his brother Harry at GWS.

The Giants' backman spoke on SEN Breakfast last week ahead of the Gold Coast development, acknowledging the appeal of playing alongside his brother.

"If the stars align and we could play at the same club, that would be really nice," Himmelberg said.

"But at the same time, I've always wanted what's best for Elliot and I just want to see him playing AFL footy. Whether that's at Adelaide or at another club... I think he's good enough to play every week."

Elliott Himmelberg featured in nine senior matches in 2024, ticking past the 50-game mark as the activated sub in Round 20 against the Hawks; unfortunately a dismal loss for the Crows.

He has been starved of consistent opportunity or a free swing at Adelaide through his eight-year career, never holding security of the key forward spot ahead of Taylor Walker, with Darcy Fogarty and Riley Thilthorpe opted as the future goalkickers for the club.

His most productive season came in 2022, where he kicked 14 goals from 11 games with around 10 touches a match.

While Walker is reaching the end of his playing days, Himmelberg may find a likelier 2025 spot with Gold Coast than Adelaide, replacing potential on-the-move forward Jack Lukosius and hoping newly contracted tall Mac Andrew holds his spot in defence.

The security factor is not fixed at the Suns, however, with young prized pick Jed Walter barging through the door to take the number one key forward mantle soon.

Being a two-metre forward in the athletic prime of his career does make Himmelberg an intriguing watch once player movement begins this off-season.
