Adelaide legend Mark Ricciuto has given an update on the condition of Crows great Tony Modra after he was involved in a serious crash involving his truck on Thursday.

While remaining in a critical but stable condition after being air lifted to a hospital in Adelaide, Ricciuto, who has been in consistent dialogue with Modra's wife Erica, said that the 57-year-old was putting up a fight.

"(Erica) wants to thank the MFS and the emergency personnel at the Victor Harbor Hospital who stabilised him and got him sorted until the intensive care team took control and looked after him,” Ricciuto said on Triple M on Friday.

“She just wants to thank — there's people ringing her and she obviously can't get back to everyone so she's a bit overwhelmed with everything.

“She wants to say thank you to all the people in Western Australia who have been reaching out to her.

“She said he's going alright. It's pretty amazing that he's got through it.

“She said to me just before he's not going to be the same good-looking Tony Modra, he's going to have some scars.

“I said well he can be like us for once instead of being good looking as he always has been.

“He's going OK and we're fingers crossed he's going to get through it OK at the moment. She just really wanted to say thank you to everyone."

Modra crashed his cattle truck while driving through difficult roads in Back Valley, regional South Australia, at 5:15pm on Thursday.

Two first responders are being praised for their quick actions to remove Modra from the truck and get him to immediate care at Victor Harbor Hospital, before being flown to Flinders Medical Centre in Adelaide where he remains.

Modra played 165 games and kicked 588 goals during his time at Adelaide and Fremantle.
