Adam Simpson has confirmed he will not be taking over the position of Essendon senior coach.
The former AFL player and coach has denied rumours that he may be gunning for the top job with the Bombers.
“I am really not interested in coaching at the moment. In the short to medium and possibly long-term,” says Simpson.
“If I haven't made that clear, that's where I sit at the moment.”
The news comes as a blow to Essendon, who are desperately searching for a replacement for Brad Scott, after he was sacked last week.
However, Simpson was already an unlikely candidate, as he has joined the selection panel tasked with anointing Carlton's replacement for Michael Voss. With some suggesting he could use this position to his advantage, Simpson has confirmed there is no foul play happening behind the scenes.
“I was never going to be putting my hand up for a position for Essendon, so once I made the decision around the Carlton piece, it was like, "Nah, I want to try to get good at this (media) to be honest,” says Simpson.
“From a coaching point of view, I'm not really in that space to be applying for jobs and I don't think I will be for a while.”
With Simpson officially out of the race, attention continues to be focused on former coach and favourite son James Hird, who has expressed interest in returning to the Bombers, saying that Essendon need "people around the place that know how to rebuild that (Essendon) spirit”.
