Collingwood and Essendon fans have come together to record the highest attendance tally for an Anzac Day match.

The crowd figure of 95,179 surpasses the previous record of 94,825 set in 1995 - the first-ever Anzac Day match between the two clubs.

The record crowd is also the second-highest for a V/AFL home and away game, trailing only the 1958 Round 10 match between Melbourne and Collingwood, which recorded 99,256 fans through the gates of the MCG.

Tuesday's crowd also sees three Anzac Day matches between Collingwood and Essendon sit among the top four biggest attendances in V/AFL home and away season history.

Collingwood had already recorded 145,985 fans through the MCG across their two home matches at the venue this year against Port Adelaide and Richmond in Rounds 2 and 3 respectively.

The record figure also adds to a strong 2023 season for the MCG, which set a record-high tally for attendance across its first 10 games of the season.
