One of Australia's truest staying tests rolls around with the Victoria Derby and there are plenty of live winning chances.

If you are looking for a quick reason to feel connected to a horse, or even just hedge your bets, we have all you need to know as we pick you a runner through your footy team.

1. Forgot You - Carlton

Just like Carlton, Forgot You seemingly has plenty of talent but often makes everything much harder for itself than need be. But just like star midfielder Sam Walsh, Forgot You has an endless tank and should eat up 2500m.

2. Tutukaka - Geelong

Proved too good for them in Geelong. That's a trend the Cats have become very, very familiar with. While he isn't based out of Geelong, the gelding is the only runner to have won there last start.

3. Alegron - Geelong

This Godolphin runner comes from a prominent Irish runner. While many clubs have had a good affiliation with Irish footballers across the journey, there is not a better Emerald Isle player than Zach Tuohy.

4. Gunstock - Fremantle

Just like the Dockers, Gunstock looks to be pretty talented but has had a few things out of its control go against it. Fremantle lost Adam Cerra, while Gunstock drew barrier 19. Freo fans could do worse than to follow the talented galloper.

5. Akihro- Western Bulldogs

The red, white and blue silks of the Rachel King ridden Akihro should be reason enough for the Western Bulldogs fans to side with this one in the feature event on the card. Pride in the colours of the West.

6. Character - North Melbourne

Donned in the royal blue and well named for Kangaroo fans. It would have taken a lot of character to support North through the 2021 season and it may take some more next year as well.

7. Jungle Magnate - Brisbane

The king of the jungle is undoubtedly the Lion. So Brisbane fans can rule the jungle if Jungle Magnate can breakthrough in the Group 1 feature event.

8. Commander Harry - GWS

Harry Himmelberg took command of the GWS forward line throughout 2021 and showed he was ready to be a number one forward and a commanding force for the Giants. Just like Himmelberg, Commander Harry will give his absolute all and won't go down without a fight.

9. Hitotsu - Gold Coast

While Hitotsu may be more of a winning chance than the Gold Coast, they have one major similarity. Hitotsu has been overlooked in a massive way for this race by the market, the same way the Gold Coast are often looked over. Suns fans could be on here and prove people wrong before their team attempts to do the same.

10. Cerberus - Adelaide

Although not from South Australia, Cerberus did win his last start at Morphettville and will be carrying the Adelaide form into the race. It would be tremendous validation of the South Australian runners if he were to win here.

11. Gundec - Hawthorn

Seems very unlikely Gundec will play a major part in this race but a decent future ahead still appears to be in store. One to follow for the Hawks fans who are just getting used to the patient wait.

12. Clyde - Richmond

The yellow and black will immediately catch the eye of the Tiger Army on Saturday. Not to ignore the cup on the chest of the rider. While Richmond isn't the current holders of the premiership cup, they are very familiar with it.

13. El Rocko - West Coast Eagles

Another one whose silks will catch the blue and yellow of the West Coast Eagles on show. The Eagles have had a heavy focus on experience over recent years so it might be a nice change to follow such a lightly raced colt.

14. Raging Bull - Port Adelaide

There was no bigger 'Raging Bull' than Ollie Wines throughout the 2021 season. That was made official when he claimed the Brownlow Medal- the first Port Adelaide player to do so. The bull treated Power fans well this year, so there's no reason they should jump off now.

15. Cheerful Moment - Melbourne

There was no more cheerful moment in the 2021 season than Melbourne's drought-breaking premiership victory over the Western Bulldogs. Melbourne fans can hopefully carry on the cheerful times on Derby Day.

16. Teewaters- Essendon

Just like the Bombers, this mighty impressive youngster looks to have a bright future. He hasn't faced this stern opposition yet and there are similar queries about the Bombers ability to match up with the best just yet.

17. Zoumon- Collingwood

There's arguably no club draped in more tradition than Collingwood and if Zoumon gets a run in the derby he will be ridden by Glen Boss and is trained by the legendary Gai Waterhouse.

18. Sebastian The Fox- St Kilda

With the news of Seb Ross re-signing with St Kilda, why not celebrate a club veteran and follow his namesake in one of the biggest races on the calendar.
