Nick Madden is set for an extended stint on the sidelines, with the Greater Western Sydney ruckman suffering a serious knee injury in last week's win over North Melbourne.

The 21-year-old landed on both knees following a ball up in the fourth quarter of Sunday's match in Canberra, and subsequent scans have confirmed a PCL strain in his right knee.

Madden will wear a specialised knee brace for 4-6 weeks. Following that period, a more specific return to play timeline will be determined.

From the small town of Osborne in the New South Wales Riverina region, the Giants Academy product was recruited by the club via the 2022 Rookie Draft.

Having debuted in Round 13, 2025 against the Power, he has played a total of six games during his career.

The 204cm ruckman has been preferred in recent times over GWS mainstay Kieren Briggs. Madden came into the side for the Round 6 win against Richmond, where he finished with a career-best 43 hitouts, and has held his place in the team.

In 2026, Madden averages 28.7 hitouts per game, which is above average.

The 14th-placed Giants, who boast three wins and four losses, travel to People First Stadium this weekend for a Round 8 clash against the Suns.
