It's been said a bit in 2026, but that was North Melbourne's best win in a long time.

The Roos were down by as much as 43 points in the second quarter against a talent-laden Gold Coast at Marvel Stadium, but North Melbourne coach Alastair Clarkson remained calm and switched Colby McKercher from half forward to halfback and vice-versa with Cam Zurhaar.

With the scores tied at 105 apiece, the latter then earned a free kick inside 50 to kick the after-the-siren match-winning goal.

North Melbourne responded from its dour effort against Adelaide last weekend when the Roos conceded 10 goals in a quarter.

The Kangaroos' intensity lifted a mile in the final term as they hunted the Suns at will, with George Wardlaw's feral physicality at the forefront.

Speaking after the final siren to Fox Footy, Zurhaar expressed how proud he was of his teammates for rising from a tough first half and week prior.

"Honestly, those boys were unbelievable in the second half," he said on the Fox Footy broadcast.

"So bloody proud of the boys, geez, it is just so good to be a part of.

"(The free kick) was definitely there, holding me around the waist. I didn't think it was a free kick I thought they had played on. But who cares? We got the four points."

The decision to move Zurhaar back to the forward line was a masterstroke by Clarkson, but will the gun forward stay there for future games?

"I've said it before, I don't care where I play let's just win some games," he said.

"(Clarkson) played his role didn't he? He is a bloody good coach. We had the weight of the world on our shoulders over the weekend and we came out and performed and just so proud of this group. "
