Dual All-Australian and prominent commentator David King has nominated star Giant Zac Williams as the danger man for Richmond in the Grand Final.

The 25-year-old, who played his 100th AFL game in the semi-final win over Brisbane, has enjoyed an outstanding season, averaging a career-high 24 disposals per game while spending increased time in the midfield due to a raft of injuries to the Giants' first-choice ball-winners.

Such was Williams' influence in the middle, as well as his customary half-back position, that his omission from this year's All Australian squad left many commentators and fans stunned.

Saturday's thrilling preliminary final triumph over Collingwood may have been his best game yet, gathering 25 disposals and kicking a crucial goal in the Giants' match-winning third-term rally.

King said GWS coach Leon Cameron must consider deploying Williams in his new midfield role in the decider.

“I think Zac Williams is their point of difference in the midfield,” King told SEN's Whateley.

“He has to be part of this centre bounce crew on the weekend.

“Not just his pure kicking, but his speed, the threat to run someone down.

“He ran [Taylor] Adams down a couple of times on the weekend.

“It was the perfect match-up because Adams is going to get some ball, he’s a tough player, he’s hard to stop and Williams was the same, he was going to get some ball.

“But if you compare the two outputs post-possession, Williams was a star on the weekend, probably best on ground.

“You can’t take him out of the midfield after a performance like that.

“If he goes to half-back, I’ll be really disappointed.”

Williams has played 23 games in 2019 after a torn Achilles restricted him to only two games last year.
