Big Freeze 12 is arguably the biggest of its dozen editions, and this one will have much more meaning.

The passing of the great Neale Daniher in recent weeks has left all Australians with a heavy heart, but his contribution and legacy will be ever-lasting.

The Big Freeze between Collingwood and Melbourne has become one of the AFL's marquee clashes having been started in 2014.

Former Pie Dale Thomas and Demon icon Nathan Jones head the cast sliding down the Big Freeze in this year's edition.

They will be joined by ex-AFL player and media personality Daniel Gorringe, as well as familiar faces Andy Lee and Sam Mac.

Crossing from other sports, netball champion Jo Weston and Winter Olympian Cooper Woods are others to brave the slide.

The state government confirmed a state funeral would be staged for Daniher at the MCG on June 10, as AFL players at every match in Round 12 paused to pay their respects.

Last year welcomed the likes of Peter Daicos, Cadel Evans, Aaron Davey, Ariarne Titmus, Matt Nable, Mark Taylor, Matt Shirvington, Liz Watson, Alyssa Healy and Craig Lowndes.
