When Collingwood host North Melbourne in front of a sell-out crowd at Marvel Stadium on Friday night, it will be some 2534 days between prime-time, Friday night fixtures in Victoria for the Kangaroos.

It's unfathomable, really, given the men in royal blue and white were the architects of the concept in its current form, some 40-odd years ago.

A lot has changed in footy, and life as we know it, since the Kangas last ran out onto the Docklands' carpet with the eyes of the landscape affixed to them, courtesy of the marquee time slot.

Take a look at just what has changed in the time since the Kangaroos faced the Hawks in August of 2019.

1. Rhyce Shaw was in charge

Sandwiched between the bitter end of Brad Scott's tenure and the ultimately ill-fated appointment of David Noble was the 39-game Rhyce Shaw experiment, and the former Magpie-turned-Swan was still helming the Roos the last time they were afforded a Friday night opportunity in their home state.

The Roos won the game by 22 points, overturning a halftime deficit on the back of four goals to Ben Brown, three to Jack Ziebell, and a three Brownlow vote performance from Shaun Higgins, who registered 28 disposals and two sausages.

A young Cameron Zurhaar led all comers with nine tackles, closely followed by household name Trent Dumont, who had eight.

Four Roos remain from that side; the aforementioned Zurhaar, close mate and skipper Nick Larkey, Luke Davies-Uniacke, and Jy Simpkin.

The Hawks boasted premiership pedigree and cult heroes aplenty, with Ricky Henderson, Ben Stratton, Liam Shiels (pre-North stint), Ben McEvoy, Paul Puopolo and James Frawley just some of the names in brown and gold that fateful night.
