Fremantle has confirmed its interest in contracted Geelong defender Lawson Humphries; however, the Western Australian club doesn't foresee a deal being struck with Geelong over the WA talent.
Humphries is signed at Kardinia Park through to the end of 2028, meaning any move away from the Cats would have to come via a trade.
Speaking on Monday, Fremantle list manager David Walls was open about the club's interest in the 23-year-old, but understood Humphries was settled at Geelong.
"I'd love to look at Lawson, absolutely," Walls said.
"I think he's a great footballer and would really add to our side, but he's contracted.
"We've asked the question previously: 'How's he going? Is he settled in Geelong?', and he seems very happy.
"His management have told us that he's committed to Geelong, so I can't see anything happening there."
Quizzed on the interest in Humphries, Geelong football boss Andrew Mackie said he understood the external intrigue in the emerging backman, but noted a move was unlikely to occur.
Mackie stated Humphries "won't be going anywhere" this off-season, with Geelong already busy in looking to lure St Kilda's Rowan Marshall and Essendon's Jordan Ridley to the Cattery.
"We understand the player movement period and the transactions involved. Lawson, we love what he does for us, and he won't be going anywhere," Mackie said.
"It's a credit to the player that there's interest in him. We understand it. He's a quality guy; he's understanding our system.
"It seems like he's about to go into his prime as far as what he's about to be. So, we understand the interest, but we're loving what he's doing for us.
"He's got another couple of years to run on a contract."
Fremantle isn't expected to be overly active in the trade period, with young wingman Nathan O'Driscoll the sole Docker expected to find a new home as he explores his options this off-season.
