Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge is optimistic that luckless midfielder Adam Treloar will go around again despite his future being in jeopardy following his latest soft-tissue injury.
Treloar has been ruled out for six weeks after a calf strain was confirmed, with scans revealing a moderate-grade tear during Sunday's win over Richmond.
It prompted Beveridge, during his weekly press conference, to be quizzed over the future of the 32-year-old, who comes out of contract at season's end.
"We'll worry about that later on, his future beyond this year is something that'll take care of itself in deliberations as we get towards the end of the year," Beveridge said.
"I always hope so with a player as influential as Adam, but I haven't actually sat down and spoken to him about the emotional toll his injuries have had on him this year.
"The last one, when he came out after his first game, surprised him a bit. We'll support him and keep him in it."
Trelaor's latest setback follows a string of soft-tissue injuries that have plagued his career to date.
The former Pie missed the start of 2025 with persistent calf problems, and has suffered severe hamstring and ankle injuries in the past.
The Bulldogs are well aware of the struggles Treloar faces with his body, and have consistently taken a cautious approach in his recovery.
"He's always been a complex consideration, Adam, over his whole journey; he's an absolute pro, but his body has always been a bit temperamental," Beveridge said.
"This time around, the calf side of things, you wouldn't say it has just bobbed up, maybe a player who is experienced and mature is in a phase of his AFL life where he is a bit more predisposed to injury.
"Maybe that's the case, he's processing that; there's no black and white answer to it because beyond recovering from this one, he might be OK.
"Hopefully, he continues to go to the line and rehabs this injury like he has every other one โฆ it remains to be seen how long our season goes for."
Beveridge confirmed that the club had given Treloar a few days to "chill" but also said that no overseas trip has been organised with a specialist.
The three-club onballer will be pressing his case for a return before the home and away season ends, with an early prediction on his comeback set for Round 22.
