AFL legend Robert Walls believes there are too many teams in the AFL, suggesting the talent pool is too thin given it's currently spread across 18 clubs.
Walls does understand the AFL won't kick teams out and collapse the size of the league, but he does wonder what life would be like with a 12-team competition.
โThere are too many teams in the AFL, which means there are too many players getting a game of senior AFL football who are not up to it,โ he told the AFL Nation pre-game show.
โIf we condensed our teams down to 12, and thatโs not going to happen, imagine what the standard would be like if one third of the players who are currently playing are not getting a game.
โItโd mean the oneโs that are playing would be your absolute top-liners and itโd be a better quality game.โ
Walls joins a number of media personalities who have recently questioned the skill of football on display in 2018, with Garry Lyon last week suggesting disposal across the competition is as poor as it's ever been.
