Richmond has emerged as a contender for the signature of GWS Giants forward Jake Riccardi as he considers his future this off-season.
Riccardi seems destined to leave the Giants as he hunts for more opportunities and a significant contract upgrade.
Essendon had been considered the favourite for Riccardi, but AFL Media has reported that Richmond has surged as a genuine contender to sign the key forward.
In recent years, Riccardi has been stuck behind the likes of Jesse Hogan, Aaron Cadman and, in 2026, Max Gruzewski for spots in the Giants' forward line.
The 26-year-old played 9 games this year for 14 goals.
Riccardi is out of contract; however, he is not yet a free agent, so Richmond or Essendon will have to trade for the 198cm key forward.
Riccardi was drafted to GWS in 2019 with Pick 51; he has since played 98 matches and kicked 124 majors.
Richmond will be eager to gain some bigger bodies to help guide its abundance of youth.
Veteran Tigers key forward Tom Lynch has been crucial for the club's development, but his body has let him down, and adding a player of Riccardi's physical presence and talent will help the likes of Harry Armstrong and Jonty Faull grow.
