A pair of young defenders are currently lighting up the league and displaying impressive poise and reliability in defence well beyond their years.

Adelaide's Jake Lever and Brisbane's Daniel McStay are earning plenty of praise for their efforts in defence and are also attracting several big money offers.

Melbourne is reportedly set to make a big push for Lever at season's end according to the Herald Sun, while Hawthorn and the Western Bulldogs are also in need of defensive reinforcement and are both likely to make a play for the two 21-year-olds.

Lever has been quoted as saying he has put off contract negations until the new Collective Bargaining Agreement has been finalised, but says he is enjoying his time at the Crows.

However, that will not stop the Dees, or other Victorian clubs from pursuing the talented defender, who has now chalked up 45 games with Adelaide.

Melbourne is said to have been interested in Lever in his draft year, before opting against recruiting him due to his ACL injury as a teenager.

McStay, also out of contract at season's end, has, like Lever,ย deferred contract talks until later in the year, which bodes well for prospective suitors.

He has played 50 games for the Lions since being recruited with pick No.25 in the 2013 National Draft.

Both players are seen as key long term defensive pillars for their respective clubs and the Lions and Crows will aim to do everything they can to hold onto their young stars.
