Veteran Carlton midfielder Dennis Armfield has signed a one-year contract extension with the club.

Armfield, 28, became a free agent at the end of this season, but will now play on for a ninth season at the Blues.

"Dennis is the kind of person who puts his heart into everything he does, both on the track and away from it," Blues football manager Andrew McKay said.

"At the club he leads by example with his inclusiveness and the way he approaches training, while in the community he sets a tremendous example through his involvement at the Royal Children's Hospital and with Odyssey House Victoria."

Armfield has played 125 games for Carlton since being selected with pick No. 46 in the 2007 National Draft.
