Cats defender Zach Tuohy has revealed the sledge he copped before kicking the game-winning goal against Melbourne after the siren on Saturday night.

And the most shocking element of the story is that it came from his own teammate.

Tuohy recalls lining up for the shot and receiving words of encouragement from utility Mark Blicavs, only for midfielder Scott Selwood to suddenly heap a ton of pressure on the Irishman.

“What I thought was said was – even if you miss this we’re all here for you. A nice little message. It actually turned out that was Blitz (Blicavs) who said that," he told the Geelong podcast.

“What Scoot (Selwood) said was – no pressure but if you miss our season is cooked."

Tuohy clarified that he didn't hear Selwood's comment at the time, but believes it may have actually calmed him down.

“He’s probably right and I didn’t quite pick up on it at the time, but he reckons knowing my personality it would have calmed me down,” Tuohy said.

“I’m kind of flat I didn’t hear it because I would have had a little giggle going back. I would have been much less nervous.”
