Bulldogs forward Travis Cloke is set to call time on his 13-year career after reportedly being told his services would no longer be required.

The Herald Sun is reporting Cloke has been told his prospects for senior action next year will be limited as the club looks to rebound from a disappointing premiership defence and the arrival of Josh Schache from Brisbane.

In addition to Schache, Cloke has fallen behind million-dollar man Tom Boyd, Jack Redpath and Tom Campbell in the pecking order.

Cloke still has a year to run on his deal but the Bulldogs are willing to pay out the remainder of his contract.

“The list management committee has had a number of discussions since the completion of the free agency and trade period about the profile of our playing list for the 2018 season,” Bulldogs’ List Manager Jason McCartney told westernbulldogs.com.au.

“We had a discussion with Travis and his management about the opportunities for him to play senior football in 2018, based on the make-up of the list and the players we have brought into the football club since the end of the season.

“A mutual decision was made based on those discussions, that Travis would retire from the game.

“We’d like to congratulate Travis on an outstanding career, for his contribution to the Western Bulldogs in 2017, and wish him and his family the best for the future.”

The 30-year-old has booted 452 goals from 256 matches and won a premiership at the Pies in 2010.

His career has been plagued by issues including his set shot accuracy, but he remains as one of the game's strongest contested marks, with or without the infamous glove.

He looked to reignite his career at the Bulldogs after falling out of favour at Collingwood last year.

But his struggles at the Kennel continued, only managing 10 senior games and also taking time off to battle mental health issues.
