It's a sombre day, is ANZAC Day.

A day Australians come together to recall with reverence of the sacrifices of the men and women who have served this country.

Since 1995, two of of the nation's biggest sporting clubs have gone head to head on April 25th, serving up countless classics to do their part in honouring the servicemen and women the day celebrates.

Collingwood, and Essendon. Two Victorian powerhouses who, over the years, have seen their colours adorned by some of the codes biggest names. Here's a ranking of 10 of the very best players who have featured in the Magpies v Bombers showpiece since its inception. It's some list if Gavin Brown and Nick Daicos can't get a gig!

2. Matthew Lloyd

One of the last great rockstar full-forwards, "The Velvet Sledgehammer" boasts a CV that franks his well-documented opinion of himself.

"Lordo" anchored Essendon forward lines for the better part of 15 years, claiming leading goalkicker honours at the club a staggering 12 times. He led the league in majors thrice, claiming the Coleman medal three times in four seasons at the turn of the century, including in the Bombers' premiership year of 2000.

He won five All-Australian blazers, a Goal of the Year and Mark of the Year award, in back-to-back years, no less, captained the Bombers for the final four years of his career, and is firmly entrenched in the top 10 for career goals in the V/AFL.
