GWS Giants star Toby Greene may have sewn up the Mark of the Year race with a high-flying effort over Carlton defender Lewis Young.

Midway through the opening quarter of Saturday's match at Marvel Stadium, a long ball off the boot of Irish Giant Callum Brown drifted toward centre-wing where Young was camped under the Sherrin.

Unsuspecting of Greene, Young - a 201cm-tall step-ladder - was positioned perfectly for the Giants forward, who leapt onto the Blues defender's shoulders before taking the ball over his left shoulder.

In the air for what seemed like an eternity, the mark is sure to earn heavy backing in contention for Mark of the Year.

"That's massive!" analyst Jason Dunstall said during the broadcast.

Carlton carried a 10-point lead into the first break of the match after the Giants gained an early lead in the encounter.
