Toby Greene has been appointed captain of GWS for the 2023 season, after serving as co-captain alongside Stephen Coniglio and Josh Kelly last year.

Greene, an inaugural Giant, has played 191 games for the club, earning All-Australian selection twice in addition to his club best and fairest win in 2016.

The talented 29-year-old will lead the club into a new era, with new coach Adam Kingsley set to embark on his first season at the helm in 2023. Both Coniglio and Kelly will support Greene as vice-captains.

Green will lead the seven-man leadership team, with Tom Green, Harry Perryman, Sam Taylor and Connor Idun joining the group for the first time.

Speaking to club media, Greene said the decision was an "honour", while paying his respects to his former co-captains.

“It's a huge honour,” Greene said.

“I've come a long way and it took a long time, but I've done a lot of work on my leadership skills.

“As a young kid I was probably nowhere near it and was trying to find my way in AFL footy but I'm in my twelfth season now and I've been here since the start.

“It's a massive honour and I'll be certainly putting all my time and effort into doing the best job I can.

“I'm looking forward to getting to work with them, alongside the four new players who have been named in the leadership group as well.

“It's an exciting mix with the four new guys and the three of us who have been here for a while.”

The Giants' season begins on Sunday, March 19 against the Adelaide Crows.
