Former Bombers great Tim Watson has named the two coaches at the top of Carlton's wish list.

Following Brendan Bolton's sacking on Monday, the Blues have assembled a five-man panel to pick their new coach, comprised of president Mark LoGiudice, footy boss Brad Lloyd, football director Chris Judd, CEO Cain Liddle and board member David Campbell.

David Teague will assume the interim coaching role for the rest of the season, but Watson believes the club have two other candidates in their sights for 2020.

“I’ve heard that there are two guys that are in the frame ahead of everybody else that Carlton would like there,” he told SEN Breakfast.

“I’m hearing this; Brad Scott, they’re going to look at very, very closely, and the other one would be Michael Voss.”

“I’m just saying that’s what I’m hearing that those two guys are two fellas who they are very, very interested in.”

“If you were to draw up a list of all the candidates out there, the ones that are attainable, then those two are at the top of the pile.”

Scott mutually agreed to part ways with North Melbourne a fortnight ago after leading the club's coaching ranks since 2010.

Voss had the top job at Brisbane from 2009-2013 before joining Port Adelaide as an assistant the following season.
