Four AFL rivals have been flagged as potential suitors for Richmond defender Jayden Short, who is open to a trade this off-season.
Under contract, the wantaway backman would be an ideal fit for a club looking to contend over the short term that also needs "some defensive bounce off half-back".
The AFL Trade Show's Aidan Cellini raised Adelaide as a fitting suitor for Short, who could also be an option for Collingwood, St Kilda and Carlton.
"I like Adelaide," Cellini said on this week's episode of the AFL Trade Show. "Collingwood, St Kilda and the Blues as well. They each need one or two pieces to elevate them into the top six or top four.
"With the Pies, it's interesting given they've got Dan Houston there on a lucrative deal... they've also got Josh Daicos, Isaac Quaynor and Jeremy Howe is going around again.
"The Saints need some defensive bounce off half-back. They have Nas moving up into midfield, with Brad Hill and Marcus Windhager also going across half-back. A player like Jayden Short working in tandem with Jack Sinclair would be really good for them."
Given Short's contract status, any keen club will need to appease Richmond in a trade, with the AFL Trade Show debating the 30-year-old's value on the open market.
A selection in the 20s could be what gets a deal done, leaving the Crows in a "tricky" spot given their draft hand, while Collingwood and Carlton could have the picks to make a deal work.
"You look at Adelaide; Picks 14 and 32. I feel like [Short's value] is right in the middle range of those two picks," the AFL Trade Show's Mitch Keating said.
"So that's maybe a little tricky, unless they give up 32 and a future selection. They've also got 37. I don't know if two picks in the 30s will get it done for the Tiges.
"For Collingwood, they've got 9 and 27. That second selection could be a fitting pick. The Saints have 8 and then 44. So they're in a tricky position, so maybe a future second from St Kilda.
"The Blues, they've got Cody Walker to deal with. They do have two good early picks in 11 and 16, but they currently aren't enough for a Pick 1 bid if that does come for Cody. They do have Picks 23 and 24. So maybe there's a selection in their hand already. The Blues might have something there."
