The Banner Man is back with his wit and pen as his sword and shield.

Comedian Danny McGinlay has put his mind to work once again for Zero Hanger to deliver his topical and funny takes on the world of football.

This weekend, McGinlay has focused his attention on the Friday night game between Hawthorn and Greater Western Sydney at the MCG.

The match is a must-win clash for the Giants if they are to keep within reach of not only a finals spot, but to stay in wildcard contention.

GWS is under pressure on and off the field as star veteran Toby Greene has emerged as a likely departure from the club to Geelong at season's end, while key forward Jesse Hogan is missing again as his career seems to be fading away.

Hawthorn will be hoping to make it two wins on the trot and cement its spot in the top three on the ladder. However, star goal kicker Jack Gunston remains an out from the Hawks side due to injury.

Using the recent news of the controversial resignation of a famous Australian TV presenter and a world wide animal disease, McGinlay's banners are at their humorous best.

Hawthorn

Playing at the G on a Friday night
Will be an easy win for our crew
The only way the Hawks can fall
Is if the Giants are carrying bird flu

GWS

The media may have written us off
But our team is strong and heroic
Any journo who doubts the mighty Giants
Can go to Centrelink with Stefanovic
