1. Backline

Jack Scrimshaw

Scrimshaw was all class across halfback helping the Hawks upset GWS. His ball used was elite as he gathered 28 disposals at 85% efficiency.

He also finished with 9 inside 50s, 4 score involvements and 6 marks as he kept the Giants forwards accountable rebounding the ball outside of the defensive 50.

Steven May

May was a standout defender for the Demons, as he made life difficult for his opponent and the rest of the Bombers team.

He had 8 intercepts, 7 marks, 4 score involvements, 18 disposals at 100% efficiency. May has been one of the league's best defenders all season and is likely to get an All-Australian nod at the end of the season.

Adam Saad

Saad was excellent for the Blues in defense as they held onto a 10 point win against the Crows. He was instrumental in the final quarter including the match-saving chase-down tackle preventing a certain goal for the Crows.

Saad ended the match with 19 touches, 3 inside 50s, 439 metres gained, 5 intercepts, and a goal.

Daniel Rich

Rich put on a strong showing in the backline, as he broke up play and sent the Lions into attack.

He finished the match with 25 touches, 7 marks, 5 score involvements, 4 intercepts, 6 inside 50s, and 641 metres gained.

Dougal Howard

Howard was pivot down back for the Saints as the Tigers were kept to only 2 goals for the entire match.

Intercepting 10 times, he also had 21 disposals at 95% and 9 marks (3 contested). After a slow start to the season, hopefully, Howard can get back to his excellent and consistent form of 2020.

Will Day

Day continues to impress showing why he is one of the Hawks most promising young prospects. He got plenty of the ball (29 touches) and used it effectively 82% of the time.

Day finished with 10 intercepts, 7 score involvements, 6 inside 50s, 7 marks and 634 metres gained. He was an important piece of the Hawthorn defense that managed to hold off a desperate Giants side who would have been in the top 8 if they won the match.

Centre

Sam Walsh

Walsh stared for the Blues, with another best-on-ground performance for the young gun. His run and ball-winning were instrumental in Carlton's victory.

He gathered 38 touches, 7 marks, 17 pressure acts, 9 score involvements, 5 inside 50s and 578 metres gained. With the big signings of Cripps and McKay over the past few weeks, extending Walsh's contract is the Blue's top priority by the beginning of next season.

Zach Merrett

While Parish has been getting most of the attention, Merrett has put together his own excellent season for the Bombers. In a hard-fought match, Merrett kept the game close by putting together one of his best games of the season.

He finished with 41 disposals, 8 tackles, 8 score involvements, 6 inside 50s, 5 marks and 563 metres gained. Merrett's new contract is a steal for the Bombers, as the star mid would have commanded over one million dollars a season from rival clubs.

Luke Dunstan

Dunstan was best afield as St Kilda upset the reigning premiers. In an up and down season for the Saints, Dunstan played one of his best games of the season.

He gathered 32 touches, 11 clearances, 667 metres gained, 6 score involvements, 9 inside 50s and a goal. If Dunstan can consistently impact the game as he did on the weekend, the Saints could still make an unlikely run to the top 8.
