Tasmania Devils recruiting boss Derek Hine said the club wants 12 to 14 senior players to don the guernsey when they run out in Round 1, 2028.
The Devils unveiled their first eight signings, confirming the group of pre-listed 17-year-olds, headed by Axel Walsh.
Tasmania has been linked to multiple AFL players throughout the competition, and will be gunning for Tom Green as one of their major coups in the next 12 months.
"We've clearly got some commitments in place,” Hine said on AFL Trade Radio.
“We'd like to think we'd have six players by Christmas."
The Devils are starting to build their football program, headed by inaugural coach Ken Hinkley and Geelong's Nigel Lappin.
The pair will formulate a crucial part of the club's development as well as help land opposition people from around the AFL.
“You hear about clubs struggling to sign assistant coaches, but we're the opposite at the moment; we're knocking them back,” Hine said.
That interest includes but is not limited to Cats' head of football Andrew Mackie, who addressed Tasmania's call.
“Just when the dust settles on all this stuff … just have a good think,” he said.
“I have a family of six which you need to think about but this (Geelong) is a special place, a special footy club and with special people.”
