The Tasmania Devils want to continue making inroads into their club build, and have Geelong development coach Nigel Lappin in their sights.
After last week's appointment of former Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley as the club's inaugural coach, the Devils are looking to fill the roles to assist in growing the club.
Lapping, according to SEN, is at the top of the list, with Tasmania deeming the premiership Lion as suitable for the Head of Development.
After a stellar playing career, which spanned over 15 years, 279 games, three flags, four All-Australians, a Brisbane best and fairest and captain of the club, Lapin immediately joined the coaching caper.
He joined Geelong ahead of the 2009 season, and has been there ever since, holding roles as midfield coach before moving to the development coaching role. Lappin has been leading the Cats' development since 2024.
Carlton attempted to pry the well-regarded development coach out of Kardinia Park.
It is understood Hinkley wants Lappin to help him in the Apple Isle.
The Devils have leapfrogged the role of football boss as its priority, with Lappin and the development position deemed significant at the moment.
Former Essendon coach Brad Scott was initially sounded out for the head of football gig, but ultimately decided the timing wasn't right.
“I don't think so,” Devils committee member Alastair Lynch said on SEN two weeks ago.
“I know that discussions have gone on.
“If we could get Brad, and if Brad was keen to do it, he'd be one of those people that would be very well suited. He's got an enormous amount of experience with the AFL and at clubland.
“He has a really good understanding of the build in Tasmania. Before he took the Essendon job, he was heavily involved in developing the list rules for our men's program build. His understanding of that would be a great resource.
“I don't think he's going to be the one, but certainly a discussion that was reported, and Brendon caught up with him a few weeks (ago).
“We've got ongoing discussions with a number of very good candidates again. But I don't think the timing would be right for Brad Scott.”
