Sydney football manager Tom Harley says midfield star Luke Parker is close to committing to the club on a new long term deal.

The 23-year-old attracted interest from several Victorian clubs during last year's trade period and it was rumoured he may seek a trade back home to Victoria.

However, Harley says the club is very close to agreeing to terms with Parker on a new contract.

"We're really close," Harley told SEN on Thursday morning.

"He's the youngest player ever to be voted into the Swans' leadership group and he's an integral part of our future, both on and off the field.

"He's exactly the type of player you want at your club. On the field he's ruthless and competitive and off the field he really drives the troops.

"We've had fantastic leaders in (Jarrad) McVeigh, Kieren Jack and Josh Kennedy and Luke's the next one to bridge that gap before we get to the really young ones in Callum Mills and Isaac Heeney.

"We're very confident Luke will be with us for a long time."

Parker has played 101 games with the Swans since being selected with pick No. 40 in the 2010 National Draft.
