The Sydney Swans are reportedly seriously considering the possibility of appointing a sacked ex-coach to replace outgoing assistant Don Pyke.

Stuart Dew, who was dismissed from his post as Gold Coast Suns senior coach mid-year, is thought to be on Sydney's radar as it begins its search for a replacement for Pyke, who will depart to become the West Coast Eagles' new chief executive officer.

The Swans have 'sounded out' Dew, according to a Friday afternoon report by Herald Sun journalist Jay Clark.

Previous to his Sunshine Coast tenure, Dew spent eight seasons in the Harbour City with the Swans ranging from 2010-2017.

Per Clark, Dew is 'highly rated' by veteran Sydney senior coach John Longmire.

Since being offloaded by the Suns in June, Dew travelled abroad to join Australia's test cricket coaching team amid the nation's Ashes battle with England.

The 44-year-old is a two-time premiership player, having achieved the ultimate footballing triumph with Port Adelaide (2004) and Hawthorn (2008) before embarking on a respectable coaching career in the league.

After parting ways with Dew, who achieved just a 36-84-1 coaching record at Carrara, Gold Coast went on to hire three-time Richmond premiership coach Damien Hardwick as its new head mentor.
