State League wrap-up: Round 18



North Ballarat 11.9 (75) def. Northern Blues 6.13 (49)

North Ballarat finally claimed a win, knocking off the Northern Blues by 26 points. Luke Kiel was a beast for the Roosters recording 17 tackles along with 23 touches. Nicholas Rippon was also good for the victors finishing with 35 disposals.

Cameron O’Shea (35 touches and seven tackles) was good for the Blues, as was Dennis Armfield who kicked two goals.

Footscray 18.9 (117) def. Coburg 8.9 (57)

A scoreless first quarter from Coburg led to a 60-point loss to Footscray. Veteran Matt Boyd put in a fantastic performance kicking two goals and collecting 38 disposals. Lukas Webb was also brilliant for the Dogs, he had 33 touches and slotted four majors. Travis Cloke managed to hit the scoreboard, kicking three goals.

Despite the loss, Luke Bunker was excellent for the Lions, he had 28 disposals, 13 tackles, and kicked a goal.

Port Melbourne 6.12 (48) def. by Williamstown 7.9 (51)

Port Melbourne have slipped to fourth after a tight loss to Williamstown on Saturday. William Wheeler put in a mammoth game for the Seagulls, he had 36 disposals, laid 17 tackles and kicked two goals.

Eli Templeton performed well for the Borough, collecting 28 touches and clunking 11 marks.

Geelong 13.8 (86) def. by Sandringham 16.17 (113)

Sandringham came back from a slow first quarter to breeze past Geelong. St Kilda ruckman Tom Hickey impressed for the victors, he recorded 28 touches, 35 hit-outs and kicked a goal. Maverick Weller was also good, kicking two goals to go along with 26 disposals.

Aaron Black kicked three goals for the Cats, while his teammate Ben Reid (30 disposals and one goal) was also very good.

Casey 10.11 (71) def. Essendon 7.14 (56)

Casey kicked three unanswered goals in the final quarter to beat Essendon by 16 points in a tight contest. Angus Brayshaw (25 touches) played well for the Demons, as did Josh Wagner (24 touches and nine tackles).

Heath Hocking staked his claim for a seniors recall with 25 disposals and a goal, as did Craig Bird (28 touches and nine tackles).

Richmond 16.6 (102) def. by Collingwood 14.20 (104)

Collingwood came from behind late to squeak past Richmond. The Pies kicked 3.9 in the final quarter after being 16 points down after the third term. Mason Cox put in a huge game, he had 47 hit-outs, 24 disposals, eight marks and kicked two goals. Tom Phillips was also exceptional recording 40 touches, 10 tackles, and kicking three goals.

Taylor Hunt (25 disposals and three goals) and Tyson Stengle (19 disposals and four goals) were two of Richmond’s best.

Box Hill 15.18 (108) def. Werribee 9.9 (63)

Box Hill surprised no one in there 45-point win over Werribee. Harry Morrison was good for the Hawks, collecting 30 disposals and 11 tackles, while teammate Anthony Brolic had 29 touches.

Todd Goldstein was just okay in his return to the VFL, he had 52 hit-outs but only eight disposals. Lindsay Thomas could have kicked a bag, but inaccuracy hurt him, only kicking 2.3.
