Liam Ryan has been helped from the field in the second quarter of St Kilda's encounter with his previous side, the West Coast Eagles, on Sunday afternoon.

"Flyin'" landed heavily after a marking contest, with his head, wrist and back seemingly bearing the brunt of his crash landing.

Minutes later, he was left sore and sorry after collecting a stray knee to the ribs from Reuben Ginbey, who was running back with the flight.

Ryan, now 29 years of age, will be assessed for injuries following the two incidents, with a concussion test likely to be conducted following his heavy contact with the ground in the initial incident.

The 2020 All-Australian has enjoyed a fine start to life in Moorabbin, and was looking more and more sure of his role in the Saints forward line with each passing week.

St Kilda have overcome a sloppy start to proceedings to kick away from the struggling Eagles, who, once again, find themselves behind at the main break. A run of multiple goals will please Ross Lyon, as will the play of Jack Higgins, who has registered three classy majors under the roof at Marvel.

Ryan returned to the ground in the final five minutes of the second term, but appeared to be labouring.
