West Coast forward Liam Ryan won't feature for the Eagles this weekend after being required to undergo AFL health and safety protocols.

Ryan, who has been placed away from the Eagles' preparations in recent weeks after having placed in isolation, will remain absent from his duties for Sunday's clash against the Gold Coast.

The threatening forward will be replaced by COVID contingency top-up player and former North Melbourne midfielder Declan Mountford in Adam Simpson's 26-man squad for Round 2.

Mountford played 12 games for the Kangaroos between 2016-2018 and has since returned to WAFL club Claremont.

The Eagles are already without Oscar Allen (foot), Jack Darling (foot), Luke Shuey (hamstring), Dom Sheed (ankle), Elliot Yeo (calf), Liam Duggan (knee) for the opening round, with as many as 14 players currently paced on their injury list.
