St Kilda will wait until the dust settles to engage in contract extension discussions with Alix Tauru.

Tauru's name has been thrown around in trade speculation, and after touring Gold Coast's facilities, there was thought he'd be on the move.

However, the Saints have repeatedly attempted to pour cold water on any potential deal, with footy boss Lenny Hayes stating the club will look to open contract talks in the near future.

"I think those discussions will be. And I think with everything that's popping up on the last couple of weeks, let the dust settle there," Hayes said.

"We've had some great conversations with him, and so has Ross. He's really keen to stay (at the club). He's an outstanding young man."

Hayes also indicated the Saints and Geelong were engaging in meaningful conversations regarding the future of Rowan Marshall.

For the second straight year, Marshall wants to join the Cats, but his contracted status means St Kilda has the whip hand.

Hayes said the club would love to pair the ruckman with Tom De Koning again in 2027 following an improvement in the midfield's clearance game, and would welcome Marshall back despite his desire to leave.

Collingwood premiership duo Jordan De Goey and Bobby Hill were raised as potential options for the Saints.

De Goey is contracted at the Pies for next year, but has once again been floated as a potential option that could yield the black and white side a first-round selection.

St Kilda has held previous interest in the midfield-forward but has yet to discuss any move for him.

"He's a quality player, but you know we also have a lot of faith in our young midfield group," Hayes added.

As for Hill, there are strong links to family member Brad Hill, while Hayes also worked closely with him at the Giants.

"We haven't discussed Bobby, but what I can tell, I know Bobby through my time with the Giants, I was really buoyed by the fact that he's come out (and stated his intention to play AFL football again)," he said.
