Fremantle is counting the cost of its nail biting four-point win over North Melbourne on Sunday, with several key players failing to complete training on Wednesday.

As many as five Dockers look to be in doubt for Fremantle's clash with West Coast on Sunday afternoon.

Key defenders Michael Johnson and Joel Hamling failed to train at all on Wednesday, while Lee Spurr and Sean Darcy trained away from the main group and were restricted to light duties and onballer Brad Hill left the track early.

The news is made worse by the fact West Coast star Josh Kennedy is likely to return to the Eagles' side for the derby, with the key forward telling radio station 6PR on Tuesday he almost returned last week against Port Adelaide.

“I got through Tuesday at training and Thursday at training,” Kennedy said.

“But in the medical meeting… the doctor had a gut feel that it was too much of a risk to let me play. So he ruled me out.

“He was more comfortable if I had another full training session (last) Saturday, and then have another full week this week.

“It was a bit annoying, but in saying that, you’ve got to back the docs in.

“If he’s saying there’s too much risk and it just doesn’t feel right, you’ve got to back him in.”

The Eagles will be hoping Kennedy can return this week, with the two-time Coleman Medal winner claiming the past two Glendinning Medals for best afield in the Western derby, booting 13 goals in the last two games against the Dockers.
