Brighton Grammar hosting Caulfield Grammar will be the inaugural APS firsts football grand final on Saturday.
But four years ago, the pair faced off in the last round of the season which was effectively a grand final and is reflected upon as one of the highest standard games in Associated Public School (APS) firsts football history.
The Tonners overcame a 46-point deficit in the third quarter to level the scores at full-time, with both schools sharing in the spoils of a premiership.
It was a dramatic climax to a talent-laden game, with Brighton Grammar kicking into a strong breeze in the last quarter but still overcoming a 21-point deficit to level the scores late at Caulfield Grammar's Wheelers Hill campus.
Nick Watson was a year 11 who had electric moments in the game, while GWS' Harvey Thomas, former AFL-listed Blake Drury and Fremantle defender Ollie Murphy were among Caulfield's best talent.
Brighton Grammar had Levi Ashcroft, Cam McKenzie, Harry Oliver and Luke Trainor all graduate onto AFL lists from that game.
Haileybury College and Brighton Grammar have occupied first and second position on the table in the last two years and, alongside Caulfield Grammar, have established themselves as the clear heavyweights of the competition.
Haileybury College went undefeated last season despite not having anyone reach an AFL list.
Brighton Grammar proved too good for Haileybury on a wet and dreary day in 2024 with Trainor, Levi Ashcroft, Oliver, Josh Dolan and Lennox Hofmann all pillars of that team who have gone on to AFL lists.
The Bloods also took out the premiership in 2023, with Archie Roberts, Harry Armstrong and Taj Hotton all playing a role in that season.
Xavier College won a Covid-shortened six game season in 2021, with Port Adelaide's Dante Visentini a key cog in that team.
Noah Anderson, Nick Daicos and Matt Rowell famously led Carey to victory in 2019, with Haileybury winning the previous two, going undefeated across 2017 and 2018.
Among the players to come through the school during those flags were Ben King, Max King, Liam Stocker, Luke Davies-Uniacke and Andy Brayshaw.
As many as 10 future AFL players will be in action when Brighton Grammar hosts Caulfield Grammar on Saturday, with Jake Miller, Riley Stratford, Wil Malady, Marlon Neocleous, Tyson Bradley and Arki Butler all virtually certainties to reach the next level with others such as Harper McCullough, Chase Whelan, Jasper Williams, Archie Bakoulas and Will Thornton in the mix across the next two years.
