St Kilda captain Jarryn Geary will miss his side's clash with Collingwood on Saturday due to a hamstring injury.

Saints head of football David Rath confirmed that Geary suffered a strain during the club's win over the Western Bulldogs on Sunday.

"Jarryn was playing a role on one of their key playmakers, so for him to stay out there was really important for the team," Rath told The Age.

"Unfortunately, he will miss Saturday's clash with the Magpies but the injury is very minor and we expect him to be running by the end of the week."

Geary is coming off a strong performance against the Bulldogs, locking down speedster Jason Johannisen in a forward tagging role.

The skipper was limited to just five senior matches last year due to thigh and leg issues.

The Saints and Magpies meet at the MCG this Saturday at 4.35 (AEST).
