St Kilda have unveiled their 1990s team of the decade, selected by an independent panel, highlighting the achievements of some of the greatest to ever don the red, black and white.

131 players ran out for St Kilda across the decade, a time which saw the Saints make the finals for the first time since 1979 in 1991 and make a grand final appearance in 1997, eventually losing to Adelaide by 31 points in the final game of the season.

After a tumultuous time in the 1980s, the '90s seemed like a turning point at Moorabbin, with the club making a climb up the ladder and featuring in the finals action four times across the decade after spending most of the previous 15 years languishing at the lower end of the ladder.

Several of St Kilda's all-time greats feature in the team, with two-time Brownlow medallist Robert Harvey, 1360-time goalkicker Tony Lockett and four-time All-Australian Nathan Burke just three of the inclusions.

The team was unveiled at a function at RSEA Park last month, with dozens of former Saints heading back to the club for the celebration.

Ken Sheldon, St Kilda's coach from 1990-1993 and Stan Alves, the man who led the club to the 1997 grand final, were named as joint coaches.

The late Danny Frawley, who captained the club from 1987-1995 and worked as an assistant and specialist defence coach at the club from 2014-2018, was named as skipper of the Team of the Decade.
