St Kilda forward Jack Higgins is no guarantee to feature in the club's Friday night clash with Fremantle.

The elusive forward has 17 goals this season and is a crucial part of the Saints' forward line against the premiership-contending Dockers, as a three time club leading goal kicker, but has boxes to tick after experiencing knee soreness in Round 9.

“Jack was assessed during the first quarter and was able to return to play out the remainder of the game,” GM of Football Lenny Hayes said.

“His recovery will be monitored throughout the week, but we'll give him every opportunity to play this week.”

Sydney is another club to suffer an injury blow, with Dane Rampe set to miss the next month with a calf strain after last week reporting soreness and subsequently being managed.

Meanwhile, Brisbane premiership trio Dayne Zorko, Jarrod Berry and Ty Gallop are all tests to return for Brisbane's clash against GWS, while Jaegar O'Meara is also a test to return for Fremantle from his facial injury.

As well as Will Day's VFL return, Mabior Chol and Conor Nash are also available for selection.

Tom Powell will be sidelined for up to a month with a groin injury, while Luke Davies-Uniacke is available despite concern after he was hobbled late in the Roos' loss to Adelaide.

Melbourne duo Jake Melksham and Caleb Windsor are both a chance to return from injury, with Melksham featuring just twice this season before his ankle setback.

For Western Bulldogs important defender James O'Donnell is a test to return.
